International Friendship Day
Last Friday was International Friendship Day. It was a special day where children from different countries get together.
In the morning, after the flag raising ceremony, a few pupils held the Olympic ring on stage. Mr. Yazid told us the origin of the Olympics and what the different colours of the ring represented. It consists of five different colors. There were also other pupils on stage. They held many flags of different countries.
Then after recess, there was a performance on stage by a secondary school. Our school invited a few Taekwando students from that secondary school to our school to perform.
Those students showed us what skills they had learned such as: the choke slam. There were “oohs” and “aahs” coming from us. The Taekwando instructors were also there. They told us not to try those stunts at home or we would injure ourselves.
This year’s event was even better than last year. I hope Mr. Tan will organize more or these events. Right now I am trying to master these skills. Hi ya!

My trip to SMRT
Last Tuesday, I went to SMRT together with my classmates. Mr. Fong also came along. It was my first trip there. We went there after school, so school that day was as usual. We took a chartered bus to the SMRT building. It was near Raffles city. It took about half an hour to reach there.
When we reached there, we first went to the auditorium to see a video on Singapore’s public transport. They are videos on buses, taxis/cabs and MRT/LRT. After the video, our guide asked us a few transport related questions. Then, she brought us to the MRT station near Raffles City. There, she told us what we should do when there is fire breakout in the MRT. She also told us how the staff there would help us to pick up our wallet if it happened to drop it onto the train track.
We took a train to Marina Bay station. The train ride was very fun!
We were given a reusable bag and a packet of soft drink each.
After the visit to the SMRT building, I have a better understanding on public transportion system in Singapore and the role of SMRT and its importance to us.

Week 7 Journal - Total Defence Day

Journal For Week 7 15th Feb 2008
Total Defence Day
By: Wong Yew Hoe
Yesterday was the most exciting week of my whole life! It was Total Defence Day. It was a day to remember those who had fought in a horrible war to defend our country, Singapore. There were many posters and information in the Skylite Cafe about people who fought for Singapore.
All of us had to assemble in the hall by 11.00 pm to watch a performance. It was very funny but it actually showed us what exactly happened during the war. There was also a fire drill. When it went off, all of us went amok!!!!
We assembled in the field. By the time we reached there, there were already many classes there. Most of us were talking very loudly. We talked so loud that we could not even hear our voices!! Therefore, we had to raise our voices to speak to each other. Mr. Tan, our principal told us that we had taken 6 minutes and 21 seconds to reach the field and praised us on our quick actions.
After the fire drill, we started to walk back to our class. By the time we reached the classroom, we were already sweating profusely and panting.
It was a fun-filled day and I had learnt the true meaning of Total Defence Day and how to act fast in the event when there is fire.
